Doyle

Doyle was found in a warehouse and brought into a veterinary clinic. When the man who found out Doyle could not defecate on his own he told the veterinarian to put Doyle to sleep. The veterinarian did not have the heart to do this, and tried everything she could to help the little kitten. Yet, all of her attempts failed. She contacted APAWS because she felt her only other choice was to put Doyle to sleep. APAWS took Doyle in and brought him to get more medical advice. It was discovered that Doyle had a condition known as megacolon.

Megacolon is a disorder where the nerves in the colon do not function properly, and the colon does not contract as it should. The colon enlarges and waste cannot be moved out of the body. This can result in an impaction, which can become toxic and result in the death of the animal if untreated. This condition can be controlled with medication and a proper diet, yet if the condition is bad enough the only option is usually surgery.

Doyle underwent surgery to remove most of his colon. He has been doing well, although he will have to be monitored closely for the rest of his life to make sure complications do not arise. Doyle has been adopted by a compassionate man, who in the near future will become a veterinarian. Now Doyle has a loving home, with a guardian who understands his condition and will give him the chance to live a long happy life.
