Petfinder Big Birthday Celebration Weekend

Petfinder Big Birthday Adoption Event

July 16, 2011
11:00am - 3:00pm

APAWS
PetSmart off of Siegen

July 15th - 17th is the Petfinder Big Birthday Celebration Weekend. Petfinder is already 15 years old and has helped place 17 million animals! We are incredibly thankful to Petfinder for not only helping us place hundreds of animals, but also for spreading awareness about how awesome rescue animals are!

On July 16th APAWS will be hosting a birthday party for Petfinder at the PetSmart off of Siegen. Come and join us for free birthday cake! Hot dogs and nachos will be available for purchase. We will also be holding a pet food and people food drive. All pet food donated will be used within our foster program. Our pets prefer Purina cat and dog food, but we will accept any brand. We are in greatest need of cat food and cat litter! All people food donated will be delivered to the Baton Rouge food bank. This event is sure to be lots of fun and we hope to see you there!

Don't forget to tell all of your friends and family so we can make this a huge success. We have a flyer available if you would like to post/distribute it.

Thank you to Purina!

APAWS received a donation of dog and cat food from Purina for the animals in our program. We are very appreciative of this donation and our foster animals throughly enjoyed the food! Because of this donation we are able to help animals like Sissy, Whiskers and Blackie below. Many of our animals have never had proper nutrition and need us to get them healthy before they are ready for adoption.

Facebook

In order to focus more on our Facebook page we have decided to delete our Facebook profile. Please visit our Facebook page and Like us!

Volunteers

We are very happy to have so many new volunteers! We would like to give a special thanks to all the Our Lady of the Lake students who are fulfilling their service hours with us. We are always looking for volunteers for adoption days, fundraisers, and more! We don't have any time requirements for our volunteers. Some volunteers only help with events, some come to one adoption day a month and some just fill in when they can. We appreciate any help you can give, more importantly our animals appreciate it! Fill out the volunteer application on our website if you're interested in spending a little time helping furry friends in need.

Strut Your Mutt

The second annual Best Friends Animal Society Strut Your Mutt is September 18th. Strutt your muttRegistration is open now, so we have just two months to raise money. This event will consist of an actual walk in Lafayette and a virtual walk for those who want to participate from home. When you register, you'll be able to set up a simple fundraising website to support "No More Homeless Pets." By joining our dog pack you'll be able to raise money for APAWS. We hope everyone will have fun with this event and inspire others to donate to our cause! Please watch our website and newsletter for more details- and don't forget to join the APAWS dog pack!

Sissy, Whiskers & Blackie

KyraThese precious pups were rescued from a woman who had many more animals Kyrathan she could possible care for. APAWS and several local rescue groups agreed to help when contacted by one of the reality Hoarding shows. The show and all rescues involved did an excellent job getting everyone to safety!

These pups are about four and a half months old and spent those months in a closet. They experienced their first steps on grass and walking on a leash for the first time with our volunteers. They are still a little timid, but seem to be adjusting quickly to their new lives. They are currently available for adoption and are sure to make excellent additions to their new families.

Animal hoarding is a topic that has gathered a lot of attention in recent years. It is easy to place blame on the individuals keeping more animals than they can handle, but it is a mental disorder. Most people who end up hoarding animals start out with the best intentions. They start by picking up strays on the side of the road, always being the person to take unwanted animals from friends/family or have strays dumped in their yard by strangers. The number of animals quickly Kyrabecome more than they can handle physically, emotionally or financially. They can't afford getting them spayed/neutered so they end up with an unending supply of new animals. Everyone can help prevent future cases like this. Spread the word about low-cost and free spay/neuter programs. Educate others on the hazards of puppy mills and how awesome rescue animals are! Tell your friends and family that it isn't necessary for a cat or dog to have even one litter! If you feel a friend or family member may have a problem saying no to just one more cat or dog please assist them in finding psychological help.
